6、untries began to contact each other more frequently. As a resultother teaching methods were introduced and translation was rejected as itsdefect in oral expression. But the role of translation is re-evaluated in recentye

7、ars. The re-appraisal of translation as the oldest teaching method shows thattranslation remains a useful method. In pert Ⅱ, the author points out thattranslation is not ouly necessary, but also important. She takes Engl

8、ishteaching in China for example and gives reasons why translation is necessaryin China. She regards the aim of English learning, the environment of Englishlearning and the quality of the English teachers as the elements

9、 which maketranslation necessary in China. She also points out that the application of onemethod in foreign language teaching is insufficient because the students arerequired to be competent in five basic skills. The aut
