2、 drier. It is a multi-ethnic region with Han, Hui and Tibetan, and so on. In the previous and medium-term period of Qing Dynasty, Handicraft industry in region of upstream Yellow River developed slowly. In late Qing Dyna

3、sty, handicraft industry still developed in this region, but the level of its development was not high, and it was in the stage of home economy. Zuo Zongtang, during his administration as the governor general of Shanxi-G

4、ansu, set up a couple of mechanical factories, especially Gansu Textile Factory, which was very significant. Thenceforward, during Qing Dynasty’s New Deal, Sheng Yun, the governor general of Shanxi-Gansu, set up several

5、mechanical factories, too. The appearance of these mechanical factories in region of upstream Yellow River, represented the industrialization’s initial step of traditional handicraft industry. Unfortunately, these factor

6、ies went into liquidation not too long. In late Qing Dynasty, the development of handicraft industry and the appearance of mechanical industry, made a contribution to economic development of the region of upstream Yellow

7、 River. However, because of lack of threshold capital and market, the traditional handicraft industry in this region was poorly developed, and hardly completed industrialization only by virtue of itself. The road of its
